Following the extremely sad news last week regarding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8th September 2022, we will be closed on Monday 19th September 2022, due to the State funeral.
The government has decided that the State Funeral will be a bank holiday. They have directed schools to close for the duration of that day like all normal bank holidays.
Their guidance states: ‘The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19th September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges.'
The country is now officially in a period of national mourning until the end of the state funeral on Monday 19th September 2022. However, this week there should be no interruption to attendance and school will be open as normal throughout this week. The government guidance states, ‘For schools and further education settings normal attendance is expected throughout the National Mourning period, other than the bank holiday’.
The children were treated to a musical morning this week, when they joined in with the virtual session, Make Some Noise!
They danced and sang along to songs as well as learning about a selection of musical instruments.
They joined in throughout the session and had lots of fun!
PC Llinos visited the Juniors this week, where she spoke to the children about Internet Safety and how to keep safe online.
The children at Ysgol Gellifor came together this week to make card hearts to send to the children of Ukraine. The children were asked to make the hearts by the local community group to give some comfort in knowing that they are in our thoughts.
Kelly Benton from the local community group, visited the school to collect the hearts, ready to send them to the mayor of Przemysl in Poland, where they have been accepting refugees and we are hoping that the hearts will bring a smile to the little ones faces!
The children have been excited with the refurbishment of their new school library. So much so, that they wanted to be a part of raising money to help buy new books of their choice.
The staff and children discussed ways of raising money, and together everyone decided to take part in a Read-a-thon.
Every child in the school read a selection of books over a 2-week period and recorded the amount of minutes they read for everyday.
They also got sponsors to support their cause.
The school held a celebration for the children to congratulate them on all their hard work, where they all received a certificate for taking part. Together the children read for over 2,000 minutes collectively, over the 2-weeks as well as raising a staggering £900 towards the refurbishment of our new school library.
Well done and thank you to everyone!!
Our school council children suggested that playground markings would make their playtimes much more fun. The children regularly draw their own games on the yard using chalk but unfortunately to their disappointment, the rain washes them way. They thought it would be a good idea to try writing to local businesses asking for support in raising money to put towards new permanent markings. They were extremely lucky to receive a very generous donation towards purchasing some new permanent markings for their yard. Diolch MKM Ruthin - our children and staff are extremely thankful and grateful.
